Michael Greger, M.D. "The Latest in Human Nutrition 2008"

The Rochester Area Vegetarian Society and ARAUNY are co-sponsoring
Dr. Greger following a vegan share-a-dish dinner.
5:30 PM Vegan Dinner
7:00 PM Program

Brighton Town Park Lodge, 777 Westfall Road, Rochester NY

Michael Greger, M.D. is the Director of Public Health and Animal Agriculture at the Humane Society of the United States. Dr. Greger has scoured the world's scholarly literature on clinical nutrition and developed this brand-new talk on the latest in cutting-edge research. He will introduce an engaging new interactive quiz-show format that lets us test our nutrition knowledge with some surprising outcomes. Focusing on studies published in peer-reviewed scientific nutrition journals during the last year, Dr. Greger offers practical advice on how best to feed ourselves and our families to prevent, treat, and even reverse chronic disease. His presentation will begin promptly at 7:00 PM.

Dinner is a vegan potluck. Vegan means no animal products (no meat, poultry, fish, eggs, or dairy products). Please bring a dish with enough to serve a crowd and a serving utensil; also bring a place setting for your own dinner. We can help non-vegetarians or others uncertain about how to make or bring a vegan dish; please call 234-8750 for help. There will also be an entirely optional vegan cookie exchange: take home as many as you bring.

Free to RAVS and ARAUNY members. $3 guest fee for non-members, unless you join at the meeting.

Gary Francione is Distinguished Professor of Law and Nicholas deB. Katzenbach Scholar of Law and Philosophy at Rutgers University Law School.  He was the first academic to teach animal rights theory in an American law school and has lectured throughout the world.  His books include Rain Without Thunder; Introduction to Animal Rights; and Animals, Property, and the Law.  His forthcoming book is called, Animals as Persons: Essays on the Abolition of Animal Exploitation.

March 30, 2008
PETITION SUNDAY

First Unitarian Church, 220 Winton Rd South, Rochester NY
10:am - 1:00pm

ARAUNY tabled on 3/30/08 for "Petition Sunday", along with seven
other various social justice groups at 1st Unitarian. We had a
Petition, calling for a local effort to "BAN the BULLHOOK" in
Rochester NY.  We also provided two styles of prewritten letters
(w/envelopes signers addressed individually) on the same subject.  ARA
provided stamps.  We mailed these letters to the City School
District of Rochester (to dissuade them from accepting free tickets
to take school children to circuses with animals), and mailed them
to the Rochester City Council, where the Petition will eventually
be presented, as they could eventually change legislation to locally
Ban the Bullhook.
